Wetland Bird Sculptures

Growing up in the Southern California suburbs, I’ve always loved exploring the little pockets of nature around me. I find endless joy in viewing the resilience of the remnants of nature that have survived humanity's encroachment. That resilience inspires hope for me as both my rights and my community's rights to freely express ourselves continue to be encroached on as well.

The bird sculptures in this set of work depict the beauty and diversity of several California native species. The clay was sourced locally and dug by hand to mix with additional minerals to improve plasticity and control the maturing temperature resulting in a truly unique clay body which connects the sculptures directly to the ecosystems which inspired them.

This set of work was created for the culminating show for the ceramics certificate at Orange Coast College in 2024. They were put on display in the Doyle Arts Pavilion and additional photos were taken at Huntington State Beach.
